The Maysonet Colón family—Carlos, his wife, and their beloved dog Chase—faced a life-changing challenge when their daughter Grace was born prematurely at 27 weeks. Originally from Puerto Rico and now living in Deltona, Florida, the family had endured years of infertility struggles before Grace’s miraculous arrival. However, her early birth brought a wave of fear and uncertainty as they grappled with the reality of leaving their newborn in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
In July 2020, the Maysonet Colóns received an unexpected offer of support from the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Florida (RMHCCF). With the Ronald McDonald House at capacity, RMHCCF arranged for the family to stay at a hotel near the hospital. This gesture, made possible by a timely donation, brought the family to tears. It was a lifeline during an incredibly stressful time, allowing them to be close to Grace, participate in her care, and communicate directly with doctors without the emotional and financial strain of daily long-distance travel.
During their week-long stay, the Maysonet Colóns returned to their hotel one evening to find a care package from RMHCCF. Filled with snacks, a handmade blanket, and heartfelt notes, the package was a powerful reminder that they were not alone. This small act of kindness left a lasting impact, making the family feel loved and supported during one of the most challenging times of their lives.

Moved by the care they received, the Colón family now pays it forward by creating and donating care packages to RMHCCF, including a note sharing their story to offer comfort to other families. Their experience highlights the critical role RMHCCF plays in keeping families together during difficult times. The Colóns encourage others to support this vital organization, ensuring that more families can experience the same level of comfort and care.
In their own words, “Without that unexpected donation that came in at the right time, I do not know how we would’ve managed. People need to know that RMHCCF is helping and keeping families together. There are so many ways to support RMHCCF, and the community needs to be made aware.”
Parents don’t know when their children will need medical help. But they should know they can always access the care they need. And with your help, we can support them all throughout their journey.
